the oct 97 issue of street power. definitely something to think about
when buying wheels.

For all of you who are in the market for wheel, this list should help
you out quite a bit. Lightweight wheels = quicker accelaration

i just put on my new 16" RC with Pirelli p7000 205-45-16.  Combined they
weighed 37 pounds. The factory wheels/tires (9spoke Long Beach & 195-50-15
Pirelli Winter Asymetricos 210A) weighed 38 lbs. All the weights were taken
on a postal scale.  So for the person who claims the 17 RC's weigh less than
factory, weigh them again.  As for the 18" Kinesis weighing less than 15"
factory wheels, what?!?
I had 17" HRE 550 (split 5 spoke) that weighed 20lbs and they were a true 3
piece wheel.
as for my new combo, RC & P7000, i am quite impressed. Normally, when i put
on my summer wheels and tires (my past combos were 215-40-17 Yok AVS and
Moda M1 & the above mentioned HRE's and the same Yoks, and i even ran 16" OZ
Evolutions with 205-45-16 Conti Sports) the cars steering always felt
different and i felt the acceleration was effected. The M1's weigh 25+ each
without tires. so the new BBS RC feel great. Turning feels just as good with
the stock stuff, maybe even a little better. i drive in SE NY and the roads
tend to suck but the car feels good. I took a drive thru Harriman State PArk
on monday, and they have just repaved some roads with super twisties and the
car has never felt better. it feels quick and light.
my opinion is do it right the first time. you may have to spend the money
twice. bend a cheap wheel and you have to buy another. ask some TSW owners
about how soft they are?
just some thought and opinions.

I called the Tire Rack and was informed the 16x7.5 RC were 14.5 lb. each. 
I am considering buying the SSR Integral (16x7.5) which is the semi solid
forged wheel (MOMO adopted the process to make the Super Lite) which also
weighs in at a scant 14.5 lbs.  Surprisingly, a real inexpensive wheel, the
Borbet type T (16x7) , tips the scales at 18 lbs.  This may be the bargain
performance wheel for the VR6.

  FWIW, I weighed a stock '95 GTI VR6 wheel and a '97 DE wheel today.  The '97
weighed in at 18.75 lbs.  The '95 at19.25 lbs.  This is using the same scale I
use for shipping.  I had to answer my own question, since I could NOT find
this info in the archives, where it had been purported to be.

Got my new 15x7 Borbet Type S put on last Friday. Sharp looking wheels
(even my wife likes them!), and only 15lbs each. That's 4-5lbs lighter
than my stock Long Beaches. The VR6 likes the light wheels...it's not a
huge difference, but very noticeable. Tire Rack has them for $145/ea.

Next up is a set of 215/45R15 Toyo T1's, and a nice coat of black
powdercoat for the wheels :)

Rec'd my new Integrals from Tire Rack today, shipping time 1.5 days, not too
shabby.  They are gorgeous.  Just got back from the Post Officer, figured
before I mounted them I'd weigh them so we'd have an accurate weight for
sure.  Answer - a 16" SSR Integral weighs 15lbs. 9oz.

I hear that the 95 GLX wheel is only 14 pounds, but mesh wheels look booty 
that small, unless it is a 2.0 16V BBS on a Rabbit.  98 and 97 DE are the 
exact same wheel, so 18.75 would be the weight of your wheel.

Kosei K1 racing is made in a 15 for our cars, tips in at 15 lbs or less.  
Retail for 139 each from Tire Rack. These are gonna go on my car.

My 98' 7 spoke (same as 97's) weighs 19lbs. In the
archives, someone says that the 17" Borbet is 18lbs. I
called tire rack to check on this and they said the
16" is 20lbs. I guess the archives are wrong. Granted
it's  only 1 pound but i still want lighter than stock
for my moola. Here's the other info I received:

98' GTI-VR6

Which year stock wheel only weighs 16lbs??? My 98 sits
at exactly 19lbs. 

A  TSW Trophy "16x 7.5 " weighs exactly  20 Lb. no tire,  with  205 45 16 mine weigh in at 36. Lb. with air.
Don't know if that helps .

Following is the weight of various wheel+tire combos, as well as of
tires and wheels.  Those that I have personally weighed (on a bathroom scale)
are so indicated.

I the K1 are 17x7.5 35mm offset and weigh around 16.5 Lbs a piece. I
am running 235/40R17 Pirelli PZero's and they only rub under extreme
trail braking in the front. Amazingly I can run them without spacers
in the back! The stock wheels and tires rubbed on the coilovers when
I put them on, and these don't!

As for strength, I cracked one, but it was a pretty good impact. Check
