Listers,

I am wondering if anyone else has had the following problem: when
cruising in speed > 50 mph, if I apply the brake pedal, the steering wheel
shakes in a rhythmic pattern until speeds fall to somewhere below 35 mph.
By rhythmic, i mean that the shake occurs at a constant frequency that is
proportional to the speed that I am travelling. Has anyone else ever had
this problem? My first guess is that my brake pads are worn or I am out of
alignment. However, I only have 16000 miles, and the alignment seems
impeccable. I do autox, so the brakes could be the culprit. Any
suggestios or leads would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, are there any listers in North Carolina with H&R coilovers
installed that would like to give a guy a ride to see what the H&R's are
all about?

Thanks,
Aaron Q

Sounds like warped rotors. Main culprit with these is improper
torquing of the lug bolts. It usually happens when someone just
uses an air gun, which is fast, but over-torques the bolts.

When the rotor heats up really hot, then it becomes just a little
bit flexible, and the bolts holding on the rotor too tight and/or in
differing pressures can cause the rotor to warp.

The fix is either resurfacing (done at your local auto parts store
for free if you buy the pads from them), or replacement. I've
heard, but can't sustain, that the VR6 rotors aren't built for
resurfacing, and that replacement is necessary. You'll have
search the archives for that info, or ask around.
