I was just at my dealer's parts dept. the other day when someone came in
asking about a replacement 4th gear for their GTI. The trans code is listed
right next to the AAA on the sticker in the trunk. Mine is a CCM. (it's a 5/97
1997 car.) If yours isn't a CCM, then VW has switched to a different tranny at
some point since then. The 02A designation is the series of transmission, but
that letter code is what really identifies it to VW, just as the AAA
designates the VR6 engine.
