I replaced the seals only on my 1996 jetta. It worked great. I doubt there
is anything wrong with the actual flanges.
The are steel and the seals are rubber. The seals should wear out before the
flanges. Pull the driveshafts, then pull the circlips on the output shafts
and the flanges come right out. There is a spring behind the flange. You
will lose most of the fluid in the tranny. install the new seals and then
the flanges. Installing the NEW (don't reuse them), circlips is a pain(not
much room to work with). It is a fairly easy job. The parts should be under
$30. Screw the dealership, do it yourself. :-)
