Here's the scoop on installing the over-center spring.
Directions are taken from Bentley VG97 P.30b-4.
Directions in (......) are my own for clarity.
Proceed at own risk.

-Locate relay plate in its left mounting  (should all ready be there)
-Working in passenger compartment, pull clutch pedal into passenger
compartment (should be a little play)
-Guide over-center spring between pedal and relay panel holder until it is
in position in the mounting bracket and located directly below clutch pedal
plate towards the firewall; the end of the spring which has an indentation
and clip attaches to the clutch arm mounting lug)
-Press over-center spring onto pedal support, depressing clutch pedal
slightly if necessary
(when you are done the indentation which attaches to the clutch arm should
be upward and held in place from the clips pressure on the lug)
(apply lithium grease to ends if squeaks occur)

That's it....should take about 15-20 minutes to do.
