Hello Everyone:

I was thinking of installing a front Strutt (Tie) bar on my 98 GTI VR6
and I believe the one from Eurosport comes with Nutserts.
I believe you have to drill some holes into the strutt-towers and then
insert the Nutserts and upon tightening they expand. (Again, I am not sure,
never used Nutserts before)  Anyway, I don't know if I trust this kind of
installation.  First I don't know if I want to drill into my strutt towers
and then using these Nutserts, Hmm, sounds kinda fishy to me.
How secure are these Nutserts?  I mean if they have to support the Strutt
Bar (Tie Bar) they must be able to take some punishment.
Are there any other Front Stutt bars that don't use Nutserts and are there
any that don't require you to drill into they strutt towers?
Any recommendations on Front Strutt bars would be deeply appreciated.

The Neuspeed front tie bar I installed 100,000 miles ago on a 1993 Passat GLX
is still perfect.... and that was a nutsert install.

I've had Neuspeed front tie bars, which use nutserts, on an '80 cab for
200+K miles, a '92 16V GTI for over 64K, and a '97 GTI VR6 for close to
40K, with 0, zilch, nada, no, problems, whatsoever.
There is nothing wrong with using nutserts in this application, due to
the geometry of the forces that are applied.  Vector analysis can
demonstrate this, but I think the quantified data that I quote above is
way more than enough to quell your fears...

I installed the Neuspeed bar with the provided nutserts. Install took like 1/2
hour or so once you have the tools out and ready to go. I have heard the
nutserts being used for applications that are alot more demanding that the
strut bar.
Where I work, the technicions install those tubular side steps on the Jeeps
with them. Those things alone are heavy and then to get people standing on
them...
They work fine. I don't know of any bars that you don't have to drill for.
Drilling into the strut towers is not that big a deal.
One word of caution regarding the nutserts: DON'T OVERTIGHTEN THEM!

Unless you have a cordless drill. My battery crapped out halfway thru the
4th hole. Bah! Man those strut tower skins are thick.

Yup. And I had to take a metal file to the holes after drilling them to get
the nutserts in. You don't want to have to force the nutserts in, but you
want the holes to be as small as possible, too.
