Not entirely true Bob. The steering shaft has a fine spline. The "clock
spring" does have a lot of movement. There are two stop points that keep
the spring from going to far. It is possible to pull the steering wheel to
re center it and than reinstall everything without damaging the clock
spring. There are no centering markings on the steering shaft.
