We all can't! THe smile lasts and lasts.

Yeah, you got it right. The Golf/Jetta has gone through 4 body styles in
it's life, and the names you mentioned each apply to a different
style.

U.S. Models

MK1/A1: Rabbit/GTi 1979-1984
MK2/A2: Golf/GTi/GTi 16V 1985-1992
MK3/A3: Golf/GTi/GTi VR6 1994-1999 (VR6 in 1995)
MK4/A4: Golf 2000?

Then ther are other chassis for VW that apply to different models as well.
