I have been quite happy with the work performed by this shop on my '97 VR6 so far. Francis has installed my 268's, valve springs, short throw shifter, flushed my coolant for replacement, flushed my engine for synthetic lube (amsoil 20w50), and performs routine maintenance too. I would not hesitate to recommend people to his shop, both as a place to have work performed and also as a source of good technical information.

Subject: [gti-vr6] new ec

in the new EC, page 182, there is a company called MOTORTECHNIK and they are
located in Eldersberg MD. is this EIP?>>

Hello Dave,
Motortechnik is run by Francis (last name?). EIP is run by Rich C. Rich and
Francis started EIP back in the 80s (?) and it survived as a small import shop
for years. Sometime along the way, Francis had a difference of opinion with
Rich and left to start Motortechnik. Francis started up down the road, and
Rich stayed put at the Eldersburg location. Francis decided to concentrate on
G60 rebuilding (with help from TEC overseas in sourcing parts) and tuning,
while Rich launched his ad blitz destined to lift EIP into the realm of the
(in)famous (I remember their small ads with the Reiger Scirocco II pic and
cheezy gothic script). Recently, EIP has moved to a larger location elsewhere
and Francis has moved back into the old Eldersburg digs. Rich and Francis are
like estranged cousins.
I can vouch for Francis' honesty.

No, they are definitely different companies. Motortechnik is owned by
Francis Stepanek. They recently moved into EIP's old location, but to
my knowledge are VERY different companies. Yes, Francis does quite a
bit of g60 work. Many of the CCA folks have had their G-laders rebuilt
by him and to my knowledge, everyone has been very pleased.

I went to his shop and interviewed him last year for the CCA newsletter,
and he was a very nice guy. Never had any work done there, however.
