I ASSume you mean a Mk3. :) I've put a scanner in there before. It's
really sort of a pain in the ass. The area is not too deep, and you'll
have to cut out the plastic in the back just to get another 1/2". My
Beartracker barely fit there.

It's not too hard to take all the plastic apart. I'd recommend doing just
that first before you commit to any grand plans. Getting a good look at
what you're up against in there will help you, I think.

Yes, I've done a number of plastic faces over the cupholder area. If you
want, I can take a pic of my car. Because of the curvature, it's basically a
custom job, with lots of hot glue, cursing, and love.

Hey Brett..
I moved mine down there about a year ago to allow for gauges into the radio
area.. I think it turned out pretty well.. I just cut up the console to make
it fit. kept the cupholders and cut off the back portion.. the cupholders
make for a good sunglasses or change tray now.. will have to disconnect the
elbows to the foot heaters under the front seats. just need some ingenuity
and a sharp exacto...
can send a pic if you like...
I'm waiting on the Blaupunkt MP3 player head to come out mid year or so says
a company rep...

Cheers
Chris

I also moved my stock unit to the cup holder area. I cut tthe back out
of it and installed usng some "L" brackets. Even with the heater elbows
removed I couldnt get enough depth to mount it flush. Sticks out half an
inch or so. But it cleared up room for a 3 gauge DIN panel which works
great at eye level.

Brett,

My cars previous owner had installed a DVD player in the cupholder spot. He
had to hack the entire back of the center console to get a couple more
inches clearance, but he did get it to fix.

By the way, even if you mess the console up or decide you don't like the
location down there, the center console and cupholder can be bought for $26
brand new from Potterman. I just got mine via UPS today (along with some
M&M's of course!). So go for it.
