I received a CD changer for Xmas (ho, ho, ho) and I recently read about how
some of you have been using velcro to mount the changer. I have a '98 GTI
VR6 and I'd like to hear how this is done. Is it mounted horizontally or
vertically? Do you just stick the velcro strips on the changer and let it
grab on to the carpet?

Thanks,

Jim McKay

I have mine mounted horizontally. All I did was attach a few strips of the
hook part of the velcro on the bottom of the CD changer, and put the changer in
place. That's it. It grabs the carpet and doesn't let go until YOU move it.

I mounted mine under the back seat on the passenger's side.
Slapped on some Velcro to hold it on horizontally, magazine
hole towards the front. The hardest part is running the cable
inside the door sill. (not hard at all) Took me ~45 minutes.

Hmm. Velcro mounted CD changer? Two problems with this idea guys:
1) The velcro will not hold the CD changer stable enough over time. Yes it may
seem stable now, but what about in 6 months after all the vibration, and bumps
start to wear the carpet at the contact point?
2) Ever wonder how long it would take for it to be removed by a thief? Or how
difficult it would be for that matter?

I've had it Velcroed now for way over 6 months, and it hasn't budged. and as far as
someone breaking into my car and stealing the CD changer..... well they already
broke in so stealing the CD changer with minimal damage would work in my favor.. Or
would you rather have to repair all kinds of interior trim in addition to replacing
a CD changer... just my 2 pennies..

I've had my CD Changer mounted using Velcro since I got it which is
about 1 year ago. I have on the driver side corner in the trunk behind
the wheel well, with two strips of Velcro on the bottom and 2 on the
side of the CD-Changer. Velcro works really well in shear, so there is
no danger of it coming off, and I have never had it skip, even in the
streets of DC. As far as theft, well one they brake in they can do
whatever they want whether its mounted using velcro or anything else.
Just my 2¢.

On Sunday night I was in the Allentown, PA. area and some piece of sh_t =
smashed my rear window in my '98 Red GTI-VR6 in an attempt to get my CD =
player. First, let me say how pissed I am that this guy willing to =
smash my window without knowing for sure that I even had a changer in =
the trunk. He pulled up the trunk cover and boy oh boy did he try to =
get that CD Player. He really did a number bending that factory mount. =
I'm having trouble getting it back the way it was. He eventually gave =
up and/or was scared away. In any case, he didn't get it, and it still =
works fine. So for all of you who may have opted to move the changer in =
a more space saving Velcro configuration, its just something to think =
about.
