I don't know about the Fuba antenna, but the same thing happened to my
OE antenna this fall--the black plastic gasket split at the seam. I
called the stealership and found out I'd have order an entire new
antenna assembly if I wanted a new gasket from them. So I went to
Potterman and found out I still couldn't get just the gasket. The
minimun parts order was the gasket along with the retainer nut and
O-ring. 

The gasket works fine; if anyone needs the retainer nut or the O-ring,
just let me know.

A while back I noticed that the rubber covering the spring on my Fuba mast
had deteriorated and cracked to the point that you could see the spring
underneath.  Well, I finally bought a new mast and when I went to put it on,
I noticed that the gasket between the roof and the base was split at the
front.  Talking with some fellow VW owners, I heard that on the newer Fuba's
the base cover is replaceable separate from the actual base that mounts to
the roof.  My car is currently out of town having the timing chain, guides,
etc. replaced under warranty (wooo hoooo!!!!) so I can't verify this.  Is
this correct?  If so, does anyone have a part number?  What is the best way
to remove it without damaging the roof?

'97 GTI VR6

IIRC, what I did was pull off the center trim, right at the top of the hatch
opening, partially detach the C-pillar trim and lower the rear of the
headliner about 4"-6".  It was somewhat difficult to get clear access to the
nut on the bottom of the antenna, but I used an adjustable wrench to break
it loose - it wasn't too tight.  After that it was pretty straightforward.
One thing to be careful about is that, IIRC, the clips that hold the
C-pillar trim are in little slots and can get misaligned from the tabs on
the trim.  Just push them back into place and push the trim back on.  A trim
pry tool helps pop everything off nice and neat.

'97 GTI VR6

I replaced the gasket on my '98 a few months ago. The top trim
piece in the hatchback area comes off fairly easily and you can pull
down on the headliner just enough to get a long wrench in there (I
think it was 19mm?). The headliner itself is pretty thick and fairly
durable. Though I wasn't pulling down very hard. it would be a hell
of a lot easier with 3 arms but I managed. Good luck.

Just cut the old one off and pop teh new one over the antenna.
It's flexible enough to work it on without removing the antenna.
