yeah, no shit. that stuff is heavy.
Kai:
buy the big box of dynamat. not the "door kit" or anything. you want the box that has at least 15 sq. ft of
the stuff.
1. take a screwdriver, and pry out out the plastic bit thats the face for the thing you pull when you grab the
door to close it from the inside. Start at the bottom, that way the damage will be less noticable when you
fuck it up with the screwdriver trying to get it off.
2. there will be two big allan screws, deeply recessed in two holes. undo those. don't bother to pull them
out, they will come out on their own later.
3. unscrew the little nipple that you pull up and push down to lock the door with.
4. remove the speakers.
5. undo about 300 hex keyed screws down the ouside endges of the door.
6. lift and pull and the interiour trim comes off. don't yank it off until you do step 7.
7. unclip the switchy thingy for the power windows
8. take off the speaker support.
9. cut the plastic on one edge, and rool it up to the front of the car
10. get about 5 million shop towels, a bunch of degreaser, and wipe the inside of the door until it comes off
with no grease.
11. get some newspaper, and stick it in the door. keep cutting off bits until you can get it into the door
and press it against the inside panel. I did two main pieces, one above and one below the rebar.
12. cut the dynamat in the shape of the newspaper. remember to invert the cut. (i.e. don't forget that the
back of the dynamat will stick to the door, so you have to cut a negative).
13. take a heatgun and heat up the dynamat. it sticks soooo much better hot.
14. peel back like the top two or three inches of the backing, work it in, then press town the top part of it
against the metal. pull more backing off as you go down, and press the thing down while you're pulling, so it
sticks nice.
15. once those big pieces are in, you can cut small bits and cover as much metal as you can. heat gun is
your friend.
reassemble.
your doors will now weight about 30 lbs more, and will be a LOT quieter. at first I had my doubts, cos the
shit is expensive, but its worth every last fucking penny.
resist the urge to dynamat the entire car. (I haven't gotten this down yet, I'm on my 2nd box now)...
