Looks like my radiator is leaking.  The other day I
drove to autozone to pick up some oil and other stuff
and I pulled out my headlight when I got back to fix
one of the adjustors that broke on my e-codes.  I then
noticed a stream of fresh liquid running down the
passenger side edge of the radiator.  Looks like a
small leak but I have been losing coolant recently. 
Nice!  Anyone have any suggestions on where to get a
new one?  I've checked the usualy parts places but I
don't think they are OEM.  Anyone have any bad
experiences with the aftermarket ones?  I think my
buddy here in Houston had one at one time on his C,
can't remember if it sucked or not :D  How difficult
is putting in a new one?  Do I have to discharge the
ac?  Any help would be mucho appreciated.

is it the radiator or one of the hoses running into it?  I imagine the radiator would be a b#$tch to replace
and wicked expensive.  Mine is leaking through the new fan switch/thermo that I just upgraded and the hose
that leads from the expansion tank to the top of the radiator.  Both should be able to be fixed easily when I
get the time and neither require a new radiator.

Hi Myk -

I replaced a radiator in my old '96 GTI VR6.  The bad news is that you have
to take off the front bumper to do it; the good news is that that's not
*too* hard.  If I could have done the whole job at one shot, it would have
probably taken about 4 hours or so, and that's allowing time to take several
beer breaks. ;)

I got the replacement radiator from Adirondack (www.germanautoparts.com).
$189, and it looked like OEM quality.  IIRC it even came in a VW box.

I did mine last year, but although the part was genuine it had some small
plastic protrusions coming from the bottom corners which had to be 'removed'
for it to fit. It's been fine since.

It could be a slight difference between my '95 and the newer models.
