Andy, et. al;
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Uwe (owner of
Ross-tech , and former GTiVR6 owner). I'm a dealer for Ross-tech as well,
and discount the adapter/software packages for listers and Quattro Club
members. The standard adapter is $185.00, shipping included, prepaid cash or
check. Retail is $199. plus shipping.
Here's the breakdown:
1. Standard adapter covers all OBD-1 (VW, 1993-1995) and OBD-2 (VW, 1996 and
up) VWs and Audis (Skodas and others in the VAG family as well). This works
on ALL GTiVR6 cars, and is all you need (besides the computer). The OBD-2
obviously has more functions available, but anything a 1551 or 5051 factory
scan tool can access (see the Bentley CD-ROMs, the paper manuals don't have
the scan tool info), these adapters can access.
2. New adapter that just came out to support the brand new 2003 Audis with
dual K-lines (or is it dual L lines? Pretty sure it's K). The reason for
the extra K-line is more bandwidth for networked controllers in the car. So
far the only car to utilize this in North America are the new S6es, and only
if fully loaded. The upcoming Maybach I'm certain will be chock-full of
goodies, and also need this adapter to scan EVERY controller. It's worth
noting that even the "standard" controller will scan almost everything in
these new fully loaded cars, including the critical
engine/transmission/ABS/Airbag modules. For a GTiVR6 owner, the added K-line
capacity is useless, but the adapter IS backwards compatible and CAN be used
on an "older" car.
3. The "ugly" adapter is a homemade version of the very-nice factory
(1551/3) cable which basically is an OBD (1 and 2 are the same connector)
style connector to the old VW "2x2" connectors. These are found only on A2
chassis cars, and never on an A3 (or newer) chassis. Not applicable for a
GTiVR6 owner.
As Wally would say, "it is written." LOL
And feel free to copy this and use it, but only if I get a 1/2 eaten bologna
sandwich in return. ;)
Hope I helped,
Mark Rosenkrantz (shameless plug to sell stuff "edition")
