DE means "double ellipsoid," which is descriptive of the reflector or
somesuch other component of the lights.  The upshot is that the beam
pattern is even sharper than with standard ECE-code lamps.

Well, see... I *thought* this was obvious.  The idea is to put light onto
the roadway without blinding other drivers, and the angled parts on the
right illuminate roadsigns and other stuff off to the side the road.
