Actually they are not an exact fit. Well, they are and they aren't. They
are an exact fit
for the European Version Golf III and yes there are some differences besides
the wiring.
I just came back from Germany and wanted to buy these lights for my 98 GIT
VR6 and
the Hella Rep happened to be in the parts store. He said that there are
some differences
and they would not directely fit in our US Spec. models, however he thinks
with a little know how they can be made to fit. It's the same problem that
the Dual Rounds have which first have to be made to fit our cars. I have
seen these lights and YES they do look very nice.
They come with H-4 Low beams, and H-7 High beams and also a city light. No
Fogs, however there is a dummy chrome reflector in the place where the fogs
usually would be
on the real Golf IV lights and the Turnsignals in the real Golf IV's are
City lights in the lights
which are made for the Golf III.
Hope that is not too confusing. If anyone can make them fit our cars
without too much hassle I would be in for a group purchase. Those lights
really do look good!!
And are cheaper than the Dual Rounds. The pair in Germany would've cost me
right around DM 400.00. My friend works for Ford over there and gets
discounts at Most Parts
stores. Regular Retail is around DM 475.00 for the pair or around $300.00
.

Let me know if anyone wants to do a Group Purchase.

THOMAS,

A friend of mine already has a set of the Hella Golf IV headlights on
his A3 GTi. (U.S.A.) Your are right in that a little bit of
modification is necessary for attaining proper fit, similiar to the work
necesary to get a set of Hella quad lights to fit properly on a A3 GTi.
The output of the Hella Golf IV lights is amazing, they put my Hella
quad lights to shame. The only giveaway that indicates that the Hella
Golf IV lights on my friends car is not factory is the fact that the
lights stick out towards the front of the car by about 1/8" to 1/4".
Otherwise, the lights are truely amazing, I can't wait for the smoked
set to become available.

Take Care,

David Kim

I would say more along the lines of 1/2", but the fact is they stick out
significantly. Not so much that I wouldn't put them on, but I am not as
picky as some.

They do look great, are really bright, and are quite unique. Dave- maybe
when you get back you should take some pictures?

It looks like the radiator support will need some "clearancing".

The ones I have in my garage waiting to be installed have single filament H7
bulbs in both the Low and the High beam positions.

Right.

I was looking at trying to set up a group purchase on these, but have not been
able to get quantity pricing good enough to make it worth the effort.

That would be an excellent price; "List Price" in Germany is DM 530.-

I paid DM 499.- for mine. Still a relative bargain; ~$315.

FWIW, I think Potterman can get these now as well (though I have no idea how
much he wants for them) and most (or all) of his Hella Dual Round
mounting/wiring kit should work. The biggest difference is that on the dual
rounds, you (or he?) "clearanced" the surrounds on the headlights to fit the
US car's sheetmetal. You can't really do that with the housings on these
lights, so it looks like we'll have to "clearance" the car's sheetmetal
instead.
